Ruining Halloween

Halloween is the only traditional holiday where it is accepted and expected for people of all ages to dress up in a costume.  Over the years, some of the men's costumes being sold have become increasingly and objectively weak.  If a witch was to re create men's costumes in her cauldron, she would add some laziness juice mixed with a good amount of  narcissist powder and topped off with a splash unfunny.  To prove this, I browsed Party City's website under the New Men's Costumes section.  Below are the gems that 2017 has produced:

Chewbacca

Ripped pajamas with work boots, a man purse and a cheap mask.  If you're going to go through the trouble of wearing that cheap plastic mask, shouldn't the rest of the costume be better quality?  For some reason Chewie really wants you to see he has human hands, hopefully attached to the arms he ripped off of whoever though this was a good costume.

Pikachu

Newsflash, onesies are not a damn costume. This goofy looking couple think they're so cute dressed the same like some stupid high school dance.  These are not Halloween costumes, you could literally wear this any day of the year to bed or on Thanksgiving after over stuffing yourself with food.  These things need to Pokemon GO.

Fat J

This outfit is named after the Fat Jew.  This is a thing people are ok with.  Remove the Pebbles Flintstones hair and it's a college weed dealer or an everyday New Yorker. Where's the effort in this?

Tinky Winky

Teletubbies were not that big of a hit that they deserve their costume being worn 20 years after they premiered.  Who thinks this is a clever costume in 2017?  Part of me wants to punch this dude in his stupid face, but he also seems "slow".  If he gets invited to a party he would probably do the Macarena during Despacito and no no one would say anything.

Jamaican Bobsled Ride-On Costume

The guy that though it would be rad to have a Teletubbies costume in 2017 probably also chose to bring this out of retirement for this year.  Cool Runnings was a movie about the Jamaican bobsled team.  Oh yeah, from 1993.  I'm not a historian so excuse me if I come across as ignorant but has Jamaica ever had a White bobsled team?  Has the Jamaican bobsled team been in the news since the movie came out on VHS?  I just wish I knew what the conversation was between those four guys when they all agreed to wear this.

Adult Baby Ride-On Costume

There are several of these inflatable carrying type outfits available.  However, in a recent study, 100% of people with a brain don't think these are clever or funny whatsoever.  Unless the guy is trying to be Chris D' Elia being carried by a baby for some reason, this is just lazy and unoriginal and most of all moronic.

Taco Costume

I just really wish this guy would come to Santa Ana wearing that and I was there to watch what would happen to him.

People typically dress up as something they're not, like a zombie or wear things they usually don't throughout the year.  I don't see the purpose of getting a cliche generic costume when celebrating Halloween.  When costumes become self reflexive or "meta" it loses an important element of Halloween.   It seems a lot of the time showing  your pretty face and drinking take precedence over a decent costume.   I purposely only focused on men costumes because women costumes are a whole other ordeal.  If I had to sum it up in a paragraph it would go like this:
A good number of women and costume vendors have taken this concept and turned Halloween into a multi million dollar slut appropriation night.  Costumes like Sexy cops or Sexy potato sacks are very popular among women of many ages.  I'm not arguing the morality of this, in fact, if it helps empower women I'm all for it.  I am of the opinion however, that this should be done on a different day and Halloween should not be used as a scapegoat.  Even better, how about as a society we stop being so judgmental of what women and what they wear?  Baby steps I guess, I think I get what Amber Rose is doing.
