Memorable Christmas Commercials

In no apparent order, some of the more memorable Christmas commercials from the 90's.  the best decade to grow up in.

                    Fruity Pebbles Christmas

This one for Fruity Pebbles if from the early to mid 90's and it involves part of our favorite modern Stone Age family. Fruity/Cocoa Pebbles commercials always had Fred getting unreasonably mad that Barney was trying to steal a bowl of cereal even though Fred seemed to always have boxes of it. At one point, Barney had to have just simply asked Fred for a bowl of cereal and eventually Fred said no.  Sometimes in my head I wonder how much of a dick Fred was or if Barney was one of those people who always want to leach off of you and never do anything in return.  In any case, Barney impersonates Santa and breaks in to Fred's house only to find Santa and Fred already enjoying a bowl of delicious cereal.  (Nevermind that Santa showed up to a brightly lit house with carolers outside and has time to chat it up and teach a lesson).  I always liked the way Barney says."Santa?  My pebbles!"  Looks like Fred was trying to play nice in front of Santa and gave Barney a bowl.  Towards the end of the commercial they show Fred had two boxes along with the all the elements that make up the unreasonable "nutritious breakfast" that nobody in the world has ever eaten.  Maybe Fred was  selfish jerk because after this commercial he was back to his old ways.

                       Campbell's Christmas

This commercial is also form the early 90's and what I remember the most about it was being very very upset that the poor snowman melted and turned into "a stupid kid."  I thought the snowman looked cool and I hated the idea that inside of it was a person.  First of all, he is ruining the dining room floors by carelessly dripping all that ice and water on them.  If that was me, and my mom saw that, she would have beat me, probably with an extension chord.  Part of me wishes that happened to that kid and he was forced to clean up his mess while sobbing loudly.  As an adult, I would see this commercial and it didn't bother me as much, the kid even looked kind of cute.  That is until I saw this again tonight, and noticed how the camera creepily stay son the kid for too long at the end of the commercial.  I realized tonight that this kid reminds me a little too much of  Anthony Fremont.  Who is that you say?  You fool.  Go watch episode 73 of The Twilight Zone titled "It's a Good Life."

       McDonald's Snowy Ad

This commercial isn't specifically about Christmas but it played only in the wintertime and it has snow and snowflakes.  Back in the 80's and 90's a common theme among dissatisfied kids  on TV was to run away from home.  The image of the handkerchief tied to the end of a pole was very common in cartoons which led to kids thinking it was ok to run away at the slightest discomfort in their lives.  Case in point, the girl in this commercial, "Lindsey."  It is very doubtful she was running away from domestic abuse or meth addicted parents who didn't care for her, I mean just look at how well put together she looks.  She's running away because everyone thinks she's "too little."  With the exception of a grown man being called that by his spouse, is that any reason to run away?  First. World. Problems.  At this point it would be wise to point out that there's a dude sweeping or shoveling snow in the background.  Two points:  1) Why would anyone do this while it is snowing?  it's like watering the lawn during the rain.  I've never seen snow so I don't know.  2) There is a clown in bright ass clothes in the middle of a light snowstorm talking to a little blonde girl  doing black magic tricks and the dude doesn't even notice?  I am glad I do not live in this neighborhood.  Anyway, all it took was a list of chores and responsibilities  to keep this young child from running away and throwing her life away.  Today, that reasoning would be considered faulty/wack.  This is another reason the 90's were great.

That's it for now, if I don't see you, have a Merry Chsristmas
