"You're gonna die tonight."

Urban Legends is a movie that I probably should have watched a long time ago, I remember hearing about it but I think I always got it confused with Final Destination which came out two years later.  This movie is wonderfully 1998, referencing pagers, those couple of years where swing music made a comeback thanks to Swingers, not being able to us ethe phone when someone was using the internet and even a pretty cute Dawson's Creek reference with Pacey himself.  Aside from  that, it's pretty much what you would exepect.

The premise is a cool concept, murders based on urban legends (some of which I had not heard of like the flashing headlights at a car apparently means war) . The way it was executed I think could have been better, especially when you find out the killer in the end and how impossible it is for a person with that frame to do the things and setup they did.  Also noticeable to nerds like me and maybe normies is the editing.  It tends to stay a little late too long on the shot before delivering a scare or surprise so you end up expecting it. There are a couple of creative kills that I enjoyed especially the SEVERE TIRE DAMAGE kill.  Jordan Catalano himself Jared Leto is in this movie and plays a character named Paul just like in American Psycho.

I saw that there's a sequel to this movie with only two of the original characters returning but to be honest, I am not really interested in it. This movie got critiqued for trying to be too much like Scream which I too, caught on to but not enough to say it was copying it in my opinion.  Perhaps the biggest flaw in this film is the scene where an attractive Danielle Harris uses an internet site called Goth 4 Goth to meet someone and then agree to go do things with them in less than 40 seconds.  I was alive during this time and I can tell you that this definitely did not happen (with hot goth girls). How dare you Urban Legends?
