Respect. Renew. Rejoice.

Kiss me if I'm wrong but They/Them is the first horror movie with a non-binary protagonist and maybe the first with a majority LGTBQIA+ cast.  That in itself is pretty cool, to be the first horror movie and maybe even the first movie to do so.  The setting is a gay conversion camp which might scare some people for different reasons.  The idea of having to go through that might scare some while the idea of "gays and lesbians" might scare others.  Don't let that stop you though because this movie is also a slasher film.

The movie starts out wonderfully for a horror movie and with Blumhouse producing, that is not surprising.  It really hooks the viewer and poses various questions about what is going on.   We then get introduced to the characters from alphabet city and Kevin freaking Bacon.  He is probably my favorite part of this movie, he is amazing and we get to see why he is a great villain, shades of Sebastian Shaw from X-Men: First Class. There are also classic horror tropes that sometimes get turned on their head and a little twists here and there.

This movie just came out this week so I will not spoil anything.  I will say that it is worth watching, if anything to support diverse characters being represented on screen.  Besides that, it is a decent film. Judging by the internet reviews, it has split people into the two extreme points of view.   Some love it and some hate it and I would say that those that hate it might have their expectations too high or may hate something about the characters and not the movie (hmmm).  The only drawback I can think of for me was the resolution in the end seemed a little predictable and could have been better.  Other than that, I enjoyed watching it and guessing who the killer was.  Oh yeah, I also don't like ventriloquist dummies and there are a lot in here but only for a little bit.  Go watch it now on Peacock Premium!
